Description
The pelham is a compromise between a snaffle and a double bridle, combining the actions of both. As well as exerting pressure on the horses mouth it also acts on the poll and curb groove. It only has one mouthpiece and can be ridden with pelham roundings so that only one set of reins is needed. Alternatively two reins can be used, or one rein on the lowest ring for stronger horses. It is ideal for a show horse, showjumping, hunting and eventing, where greater control is needed. The jointed action of this bit has a direct effect on the horses tongue.
